IRENE JOYCE WHITE On 8th December Irene Joyce White will quietly celebrate her 103rd Birthday with staff and close family at Castleview Nursing Home, Peel, Isle of Man. Irene has lived contentedly in Castle View Nursing Home for over 10 years - ever since, at the age of 93 years, she fractured her femur in 3 places and could no longer safely live on her own. Irene chose to stay on the Isle of Man because both her late husband Cyril and younger daughter Angela are both buried there. Cyril died soon after their Diamond Wedding in 2010 - Angela had died in 2009 in her early 60s of cancer. Irene and Cyril White married in MH St Dyonisius Parish Church aged 20 years old in 1940. After WWII they built up a successful shop and painting and decorating business from 22 Coventry Road until in 1973 at the age of 53 years, they moved to the Isle of Man to be near Angela and their grand-children. Their own daughters, Jillian and Angela, were both born and educated in MH. Although Irene has outlived her MH contemporary friends and relatives she still has nieces and friends’ children living in the town or nearby villages. Irene’s older daughter Dr Jillian White FRBC FRAM HonRCM HonDMus(Bristol) FRSA is almost 82 years old and lives in Bristol. She keeps Irene company for hours every day via FaceTime Video. Jillian, who of course controls the contact switch remotely (thanks to modern IT!) ensures that Market Harborough features regularly in their long daily FaceTime Video chats!
